CHOOSING A HOMESCHOOLING STYLE
The first place to start when considering homeschool, is to determine the most fitting approach/style/method. This can vary per child and change over time and through seasons. A simple Google search will reveal the many ways to go about home education. There are SO many options! The key for us has been to choose a style that feels right and then ask
the Lord for confirmations. We constantly ask ourselves and Him, "Is this working?" "Are we thriving?"
the Lord for confirmations. We constantly ask ourselves and Him, "Is this working?" "Are we thriving?"
These are important questions for the homeschooling family.
In our home, we will always maintain an eclectic style of sorts by the nature of how many different learners we have in our family as well as our desire to remain "balanced". We don't want to be rigid or unmovable in our learning and teaching styles because we see that God takes us through change over time. This is one of our favorite aspects of homeschooling!
We like to remain flexible.
CURRICULUM
Though curriculum resources are endless, below is a list of a few things that have worked well for our homeschooling thus far.
We enjoy these resources, but are not rigid in our application. As time goes on, we find that we rely less and less on some of the items below, and more and more on others. That said, here's a bit of what we've enjoyed in the past and/or currently:

Although curriculum options are endless and sometimes change over time, the one thing that is always constant in homeschooling is the training of our hearts (children and parents alike) as we strive to bring glory to God through our lives and relationship with Him. May He be the reason we aim to raise our children well.
To date, one of the most influential perspectives God has inscribed on my heart as a homeschooling parent is to view my challenging interactions with my kids as opportunities and never interruptions to my plans. After all, God's plans are best, and they almost always involve twists and turns we don't expect as He grows us to be more like Him.
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." (Galatians 5:22-23)...and homeschooling is an excellent way to grow in ALL of these areas...not just for our kids, but for us parents as well!
How true it is that I have received an education of the heart as I have homeschooled my children. It is clear that God intends to disciple me as I disciple them. He has groomed me, changed me, rearranged me, and continues to do all of the above.
ENCOURAGEMENT FOR HOMESCHOOLING PARENTS
There are many resources the Lord has used to encourage my walk as a homeschooling parent, but the primary source of strength always comes straight from God's Word. The overflow of the Holy Spirit and the breath of God's Word speaks life into those who call upon His name. Along with Scripture first and foremost, here are just a few other resources that have also spurred me on through the homeschooling years by increasing perspective and fueling my motivation:
My prayer is that I will always keep growing and changing with each day as I follow God's lead and that I can point my family to Him in everything we say, do, think, and are. I thank God for the freedom to homeschool and invest in the hearts of the children He has blessed me with. May He get all the praise for anything good He produces in our lives and by His grace may we overflow with the fruit of the Spirit because of Him.
"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."
Deuteronomy 6:5-7
